Sophomore Kelsey Long (Woburn, Mass.) and senior Merry Harrington (Peabody, Mass.) both scored six goals to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team to a 15-9 triumph over the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday afternoon at Knights Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire held a 4-3 edge with just over six minutes to play in the opening half when Harrington scored back-to-back goals, followed by Long, who earned her assist on Harrington's second and then found the back of the net twice-in-a-row, to extend the lead to 8-3 with 3:02 remaining.
  • The Purple Knights would get as close as 11-8 with under 11 minutes remaining, but SNHU would score four of the game's final five tallies, including a pair from Harrington, to seal it. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Bridgeport goalkeeper Cheyanne Gangel turned away 16 of the 31 shots that came her way.
  • Senior Stephanie Barr (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Dani Tompkins (Derry, N.H.) both handed out an assist.
  • Southern New Hampshire outshot Bridgeport, 38-27, including 22-13 in the opening stanza.
  • The Penmen also held a 17-8 advantage in draw controls, including 10-3 in the first half.
  • SNHU was 4-for-7 on its free-position opportunities, while Bridgeport was just 2-for-6.

  • The Penmen are off to their best start since beginning the 2017 campaign 3-0.
  • During its current two-game winning streak, SNHU is outscoring its opponents, 39-15.
  • Johnson's goal was the first of her career.
  • Long and Harrington are tied for the team lead in points with 12 on 11 goals and an assist.
