Graduate student Wesley Tobin (Portsmouth, N.H.) tossed nine shutout innings and struck out 15 in a hard-fought game one loss and redshirt-junior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) took over sole possession of second place on the program's all-time home run list in game two, as the 11th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team split another doubleheader with Bentley University on a marathon Sunday at Penmen Field. Bentley outlasted SNHU, 1-0, in 13 innings in game one, before the Penmen broke out for a 16-5 victory in the second game.

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- Freshman Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.) looked to have a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning, but Bentley centerfielder Joe Cacciatore went back to the fence and leaped to make the catch and keep the visitors alive.
- In the 13th, following two quick outs, Bentley's Ryan Berardino reached on an error and went to second, before scoring on a Liam Sears base hit that plated the first run of the game. The Penmen would go 1-2-3 in the home half to end it.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE - GAME 1
- Redshirt-sophomore Ricky Alexy (Needham, Mass.; 0-1) was the tough-luck loser, as he was charged with one run - unearned - on two hits, while striking out eight and walking three, in four innings of relief work.
- Chavez (walk) and Taveras (walk, steal) were both 1-for-4.
- Mercedes went 1-for-5 with a double.
- Graduate student Joshua Goldstein (Haverhill, Mass.) was 1-for-6.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- Rivera jumped the Penmen out to a 1-0 lead, as he led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot to center. RBI singles from Dowd and sophomore Bryce Reagan (Amherst, N.H.), as well as a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman Dylan O'Sullivan (Manchester, N.H.), added to the first-inning damage that made it 4-0.
- With the lead at 5-1 in the fifth, the Penmen hung a five-spot to double their run output. Reagan drew a bases-loaded walk, with Mercedes following with a two-run single, before a failed back-pick attempt by the Bentley catcher brought in a pair of two-out runs that expanded the SNHU advantage to 10-1.
- After Bentley struck four times in the top of the sixth, the Penmen plated two more in the seventh to make it 12-5, before a two-run blast from Mulcay and a two-run double by Goldstein in the eighth widened the gap to 16-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE - GAME 2
- Grad student Nick Artymowicz (Seaville, N.J.; 4-0) allowed five runs - three earned - on seven hits over six innings, while punching out 11 and walking just one.
- Junior Taylor Lepard (Toronto, Ontario) earned his first save with three shutout innings, as he gave up just one hit, struck out three and walked one.
- Mercedes (2 RBI, 2 runs, steal) and Dowd (RBI, 2 runs) both went 3-for-5.
- Mulcay was 2-for-3 with a home run, pair of walks, two RBI and three runs scored.
- Chavez (walk, 2 runs) and redshirt-freshman Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.; double, home run, walk, RBI, run) each went 2-for-4.
- Goldstein was 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base.
- Taveras went 2-for-6 with a run and a steal.
- Reagan finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, two RBI, two runs scored and a steal.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked 11th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll, has now won 26 of their last 29 games dating back to last season.
- The 13-inning game was the longest for SNHU since it defeated Concordia (N.Y.) College, 9-5, in a 14-inning affair Feb. 23, 2019 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. It was also the longest game at Penmen Field since Southern New Hampshire edged the University of New Haven, 7-6, in 15 innings April 9, 2017.
- In the past nine seasons, SNHU has lost home games on consecutive days to the same NE10 team just four times, with Bentley now attaining the feat on three of those ocassions.
- The Penmen move to 6-2 at home this season and are now 101-26 (.795) at Penmen Field since the start of the 2014 season.
- Mulcay's home run was the 20th of his career, which snapped a second-place tie on the program's all-time home run list with Jeff Weakes (1995-98). Mulcay is now just one long-ball shy of matching the career mark.
- Rivera's homer was his second of the season and second of his career.
- Chavez and Goldstein extend their hitting streaks to nine games. Chavez has recorded a hit in 13 of his last 14, while Goldstein has a hit in 12 of his last 13. Taveras has hit safely in 11 of the last 12.
- In addition to setting a new career high, the 15 strikeouts for Tobin marked the seventh 10-strikeout game of his career.
- Tobin has not allowed a run over the lst 16-and-a-third consecutive innings.
