The fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to fourth-seeded Le Moyne College on Wednesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinal match at Nottingham High School.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Le Moyne took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Sophomore Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) and junior Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) were tied, 5-5, with Birdem Oz and Francesca Lilliegren, at No. 1 when the point was clinched.
- The Dolphins won in straight sets at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 singles to end it.
- Hubickova, who was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year on Tuesday, was even with Oz at No. 1, 3-6, 6-3, when the match was clinched.
- Etienne was narrowly trailing in the third set, 3-2, after matching Marta Nunez at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 4-6, in the first two sets.
- Sophomore Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) was ahead by a slight margin, 3-6, 6-1, 5-4, at No. 5.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire dips to 14-13 all-time in the Northeast-10 Championship, including 0-1 versus Le Moyne.
- SNHU is ranked third in the ITA East Region rankings, while Le Moyne is fifth.
