Women's Track & Field Opens Season At UNH

(Durham, N.H.) - The Southern New Hampshire University Women's Track & Field Team opened its Spring 2021 outdoor season at UNH on Saturday.

Members of the SNHU Men's Cross Country team also had a chance to compete, running in either the 1,500 meters or 5,000 meters, untimed.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Junior Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.) competed in both the 100m and 200m events on Saturday.  She finished in third place in the 200m final in a wind-aided 26.91 seconds.
  • Freshman Marisa Shiland (Sherman, Conn.) was the top SNHU finisher in the 1500m race in 5:02.17.
  • Another newcomer, freshman Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) turned in the best time in the 3,000m in 10:45.27.
  • Junior Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) gave the 3000 Steeplechase a try on Saturday (11:35.81).
  • Freshmen Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) and Sydney Eccleston (Swanzey, N.H.) tied for best high jump among SNHU athletes (1.45m).
  • Among throwers, team-best totals were freshman Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) in the shot put and discus, while junior Theresa Spear (Westerly, R.I.) turned in the best hammer throw.
  • Freshman Tori Limone (Stoneham, Mass.) had the best javelin throw among her teammates.
NOTES
  • Members of the SNHU Men's Cross Country team also had a chance to compete, running in either the 1,500 meters or 5,000 meters.  
  • Sophomore J T Gulick (Norwalk, Conn.) ran a 4:18.02 in the 1,500m to lead SNHU.  Junior Alex Boedeker (Attleboro, Mass.) had the fastest time for 5,000m at 16:04.05.
  • Athletes from Division 1 America East programs - UNH, Vermont, and Maine competed Saturday.  In addition to SNHU, Southern Maine took part in Durham.
  • The SNHU athletes are working toward the Northeast-10 Championships, which will be held May 6-8 in Springfield, Mass.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • Southern New Hampshire will return to action at a meet hosted by Brandeis University next Saturday, April 10.
