PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA TEAM
MANCHESTER, N.H. -
Senior Mike Ball (Salem, NH) and sophomore
Gary McKay (Billerica, MA) of the Southern New
Hampshire University men's lacrosse team have been named to the
Inside Lacrosse Faceoff Yearbook 2009 Division II Preseason
All-America team, it was announced recently. Ball, an attack
and McKay, a faceoff specialist, were both Honorable Mention
selections.
Ball, in his first full season with
the Penmen in 2008, led Division II in goals per game, recording 55
goals in 12 games. He was named the New England
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Player of the Year and was a
Northeast-10 Conference First Team selection. A two-time
NE-10 Player of the Week, Ball was also named to the league's
Weekly Honor Roll on four occasions.
McKay emerged as one of the premier
faceoff men in Division II as a freshman. Last season, he won
65% (193-297) of his faceoffs while also collecting a team-high 81
ground balls on the season, also placing him sixth nationally in
ground balls per game. McKay was a Second Team All-New
England selection and also registered two goals and three assists
on the season in 2008.
