Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Host Lynn University plated six runs in the seventh inning en route to a 10-7 baseball victory over No. 11 Southern New Hampshire University Wednesday afternoon.  The Fighting Knights improved to 10-6 on the season, while the Penmen suffered their first loss of 2013 and are now 8-1 overall.

Lynn was led by Ryan Lashley and Jason Matusik, who each knocked in three runs on the afternoon.  Paul Stortini was 2-3 with two RBI, while Enrique Perez and Alex Freedman also had two hits apiece.

Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire, going 2-4 at the plate with three runs batted in.  Andy Lalli (Lakeville, Mass.) was 2-3 with a home run to lead off the fourth inning, while Anthony Aceto (North Providence, R.I.) went 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored.

SNHU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and tacked on two more runs in the third.  Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.) led off the game by reaching an error, and after moving to third on an Andrew Pezzuto (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) single, scored when Pezzuto was gunned down stealing second.  In the third, a Boulter single plated O'Brien, while a Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.) sacrifice fly brought in Pezzuto.

After the Fighting Knights scored four times in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead, the Penmen responded with a pair of runs to take a 5-4 lead in the fourth.  Lalli led off with his home run to left, then back-to-back doubles by Aceto and O'Brien gave SNHU the lead.

In the seventh, Lynn sent 11 men to the plate, scoring six times on four hits, a Penmen error, two walks and a hit batsman as Southern New Hampshire used three pitchers.  In the eighth, Boulter delivered a two-out, two-run double that scored O'Brien and Aceto, but the guests would get no closer.

AJ Falleta, the third of four Lynn pitchers, picked up the win despite allowing two runs in his two innings of work.  Andrew Melchor worked the final 1.1 innings to pick up the save.  Fighting Knight starter Alex Lamrouex went four innings and allowed six hits and five runs (four earned).

Joe McCarthy (Nashua, N.H.) took the loss after coming in in the seventh in relief of Penmen starter Tyler Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.).  Gauthier worked six innings and scattered seven hits while allowing four runs, all earned.  He struck out four but walked six batters.  Stephen Fortuna (Metuchen , N.J.) faced one batter in the seventh before Ian Searles (Wareham, Mass.) worked the final 1.1 innings, allowing one hit.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Friday when it faces USciences at 8:00 am and Concordia (N.Y.) at noon at the Santaluces Complex in Lantana.
