Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshmen Brittany Perdigao (Stoughton, Mass.) and Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second inning, and senior Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) tossed a complete game three-hitter to lead No. 18 Southern New Hampshire University to a 4-1 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference softball action on Tuesday. The Penmen improve to 19-5 and 8-2 in league play, while the Greyhounds fall to 15-11 overall and 6-7 in the NE-10.
Perdigao finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Southern New Hampshire offense, while Lavallee also recorded two hits in three trips to the plate. Maloof fired her 11th complete game of the season, and improved to 11-0 as she struck out nine Assumption hitters without issuing a walk.
After sophomore Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) was hit by a pitch with one out in the home half of the second, Perdigao stepped in and drilled a two-run shot to straightaway centerfield to put the Penmen ahead, 2-0. Lavallee followed by sending an 0-2 offering over the wall in left for her fourth homer of the season to increase the Southern New Hampshire lead to three.
The Penmen added another run in the bottom of the fourth to build a 4-0 advantage. Perdigao and Lavallee led off the frame with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Two batters later, junior Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) plated Perdigao with an RBI groundout that capped the scoring for Southern New Hampshire.
Maloof cruised through the first four innings, as she punched out six and did not surrender a hit until the top of the fifth. After Ashley Abad recorded the visitors' first hit with one out in the inning, she came around to score on a run-scoring single by Andrea Crowley that trimmed the Penmen advantage to 4-1. Maloof settled back and closed out the game by retiring six of the final seven batters she faced.
Jess Underwood worked the first 2.1 innings in the circle for the Greyhounds and allowed three runs on five hits before giving way to Courtney Oliva, who surrendered two hits and an earned run over the final 3.2 innings of play.
