Senior Laura O'Hanlon (Dedham, Mass.) earned United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region accolades on Saturday, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team wrapped up its 2016 campaign at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.
O'Hanlon completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:21, which was good enough for No. 17 overall in a field of 191 student-athletes. She concludes her highly decorated career as the only four-time All-Region honoree and three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference performer in program history.
Freshman Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) finished second for Southern New Hampshire on Saturday in 23:30, and classmate Madison Brand (Valhalla, N.Y) followed with a time of 24:24. Fellow freshman Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.) completed the course in 24:44 to round out the Penmen top-five.
Sophomore Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) was the next SNHU harrier across the line with an official time of 25:53, while freshman Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) turned in a 27:24 performance to finish the afternoon.
Notes:
- The Penmen were 14th in a field that featured 28 institutions.
- Stonehill College captured the women's team title after totaling 48 points. The Skyhawks were followed by Assumption College (90), Roberts Wesleyan University (113), Daemen College (159) and Bentley University (203) in the top-five.
