Freshman Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) crossed the finish line in 19:44 to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team in its season opener at the Northeast-10 Preview Meet on the campus of Stonehill College. The Penmen finished in a tie for sixth with Adelphi University.
Couto was No. 15 overall and the third-fastest freshman on Saturday. Classmate Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.) was next in for Southern New Hampshire in 20:03 before fellow freshman Madison Brand (Valhalla, N.Y.) turned in a time of 20:34.
Senior Felicia Dowling (Merrimack, N.H.) clocked a 21:32 to check in as the fourth Penmen finisher. Sophomore Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) followed in 22:16 while freshman Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) put forth a 23:01 showing in her first career race. Senior Devanee Ebert (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Savannah Reinitzer (Litchfield, N.H.) rounded out the list of Southern New Hampshire finishers in 26:25 and 27:12, respectively.
Notes:
- Nicole Borofski of Stonehill College captured the event in 18:04.
- The race featured 94 student-athletes from seven competing institutions.
- The host Skyhawks claimed the meet after placing their five scoring harriers in the top-10.

SNHU is back in action on September 17 when its takes part in the Bruce Kirsh Cup at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.
