Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Southern New Hampshire University softball team combined for 31 hits in two games on Tuesday, and the Penmen improved to 5-1 with a doubleheader sweep of Gannon University and Cedarville University at the National Training Center Softball Complex. SNHU rapped out 15 hits for a 9-5, come from behind victory over the Golden Knights (3-2) in game one before a 16-hit barrage helped erase a 5-1 deficit in a 12-5 win against the Yellow Jackets (2-5).

Senior Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) earned her third win of the season in the circle for the Penmen with a complete game effort against Gannon. At the plate, Maloof finished the day 7-for-8 with a walk, two doubles and six runs scored.

Junior Lindsey Bolduc (Londonderry, N.H.) drove in five during the two-game set, including a go-ahead three-run home run in game two to lift Southern New Hampshire past Cedarville. Bolduc reached base four times with two doubles, a home run and a walk.

The Penmen found themselves in an early hole against the Golden Knights, as Gannon was able to score twice in the top of the first. In the bottom half, junior Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) led off with a single and Maloof followed with a base hit to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Three batters later, sophomore Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) smacked a two-run double to knot the score at two through one.

Southern New Hampshire took the lead for good in the third with a pair of runs. Bolduc drove in the first run of the inning with a two-out double that plated Maloof, who reached with a double of her own with one out. Torsiello stepped in and drilled the first pitch she saw into centerfield to bring in Bolduc and put the Penmen ahead, 4-2.

Maloof retired the next six Gannon batters in order before she started another two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth. After singling to lead off the frame, Maloof came all the way around to score on a double into the left-centerfield gap off the bat of junior Katie Caruso (Newton, Mass.). Caruso moved up to third on a base hit by Torsiello and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by freshman Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) to make it 6-2.

After keeping the Golden Knights off the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, Southern New Hampshire tacked on three more runs in the home half. Sophomore Devan Rabidou (Ashland, Mass.) led off with a double and scored on a two-out single from Maloof. Caruso tagged her second RBI double in as many innings to make it 8-2, and Bolduc capped the Penmen scoring with a two-base hit that sent Caruso scampering home.

The Golden Knights were able to score three times in the top of the seventh to provide the final scoring margin. Kaylyn Shaughnessy and Jackie Martinez hit back-to-back one-out singles before Meghan Cunha picked up her second RBI of the game with a two-out single. Katie Dunn laced a two-run double, and Alyssa Bates to flew out to left to end the game.

Maloof finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored against Gannon, and scattered 10 hits while striking out three for her third-straight complete game victory. Torsiello was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI, and Bolduc and Caruso were each 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in.

After Cedarville took an early 1-0 lead in game two, Southern New Hampshire  was able to even the score at a run a piece in the top of the second. Sophomore Erin Morrissey (Commack, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice before Lavallee singled to make it first and second with two outs. Freshman Brittany Perdigao (Stoughton, Mass.) cracked an RBI double that brought Morrissey across to make it 1-1.

The Yellow Jackets responded in their half of the second when Danielle Wolgamot connected on a two-out grand slam to push Cedarville ahead 5-1. After an error, a walk and a hit loaded the bases, Wolgamot sent a 3-2 pitch over the wall.

After the home run, senior Rebecca Sherwood (Braintree, Mass.) entered the game and shut down the Yellow Jacket bats for the remainder of the day. Sherwood, who earned the win in the circle, held Cedarville scoreless for the final 5.2 innings and surrendered just two singles, which allowed Southern New Hampshire to score 11 unanswered runs to secure the victory.

The Penmen trimmed the deficit to a single run in the third. Maloof started the inning with a single and Caruso followed with a run-scoring double to make it 5-2. After Caruso advanced to third on a Bolduc fly out to center and Torsiello was hit by a pitch, Morrissey connected on a single that drove in Caruso with Southern New Hampshire's third run of the game. Two batters later, Lavallee singled to bring in Torsiello and bring the Penmen within one.

Southern New Hampshire was able to complete the comeback in the fourth inning with a three-run, two-out rally. Maloof took a four-pitch walk and Caruso collected her third hit of the game with a single, before Bolduc stepped in and hammered a 1-0 pitch for her first home run of the year to give the Penmen a 7-5 lead.

In the fifth, SNHU was able to score three more runs with two outs and extend its lead to five. After Lavallee doubled and Perdigao walked, Hannan brought both of them in with a double to make it 9-5. Next up was Maloof, and she capped the inning's scoring with a base hit to drive in Hannan.

Freshman Lauren Jones (Barrington, N.H.) doubled to lead off the seventh inning, and Lavallee followed suit with a double of her own to plate Jones. Perdigao singled before an error on the catcher allowed Lavallee to complete the scoring.

Lavallee went 4-for-4 with two doubles against Cedarville, while Caruso and Maloof each tallied three hits and an RBI in the win. Perdigao chipped with two hits, a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

The Penmen will resume play on Thursday against Grand Valley State University at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Wilmington University of Delaware. The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow against Walsh University and Lewis University, while the Golden Knights return to the diamond on Thursday against Georgian Court University and Wheeling Jesuit University.
