Men's Lacrosse Lands Four on NEILA All-New England Teams

NEWTON, Mass. — Four Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse student athletes garnered All-New England honors from the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) honors, which were announced Wednesday. Junior Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) and junior Ryan Gruett (Lititz, Pa.) were named to the First Team at attack and defense, while senior Matthew Auger (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Chris West (Albany, N.Y.) were selected to the Second Team as short-stick defensive midfielders.

Joyce, who was a preseason All-New England choice as well as an All-Northeast-10 performer this season, was the top offensive threat for the Penmen in 2015. He tallied a team-high 45 points on 28 goals and 17 assists, both of which were tops on squad this year. He notched at least one point in all 15 games, and registered 11 multi-point outings. Joyce recorded a season-best seven points (3G, 4A) against Saint Michael's College on March 28, and he closed out the season with multi-goal efforts in five straight contests. The junior sharpshooter picked up his 100th career point against Bentley University on April 7 and he now sits 19th in program history with 117 total points.

A preseason All-NEILA selection, Gruett appeared in all 15 Southern New Hampshire games this season and started 13 contests. He raked in 14 ground balls for the Penmen and forced 10 turnovers in 2015. Gruett picked up a season-best two groundballs in four consecutive games from March 24 to April 4, and he caused two turnovers against both the College of Saint Rose and top-ranked Le Moyne College.

Appearing in 15 games during his final season in a Southern New Hampshire uniform, Auger corralled 32 groundballs and caused nine turnovers for the Penmen. He picked up at least one loose ball in 14 contests, and generated 13 multi-groundball outings. Auger also added a goal and an assist this season, with his second career tally coming against American International College on Feb. 25.

In his first season for Southern New Hampshire, West was in the Penmen lineup 15 times. He scored three goals and dished out a pair of assists while also picking 11 groundballs and forcing three turnovers. West scored his first career goal against Pace University on April 4, and he had his best offensive output of the year against Franklin Pierce University with two goals on April 14.

Southern New Hampshire finished up the season 2-13 and 1-10 in the Northeast-10.
