O'Brien, a five-year member of the baseball program (2010-14), played in 205 games, battingĀ .277 with a .376 on-base percentage, 76 RBI and 159 runs scored. He alsoĀ successfully swiped 124 of 133 bases andĀ flashed a .983 fielding percentage, as he cleanly made 398 of 405 plays in the outfield. O'BrienĀ graduated as the team's all-time leader in hits (221), runs, stolen bases and games played and still owns the records for hits, steals and games played.

O'Brien piled up the accolades as a senior, including American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)Ā and NationalĀ Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East All-Region First Team,Ā Daktronics East All-Region Second Team, ABCA/Rawlings East Region Gold Glove Second Team and NE10 All-Conference First Team honors.

The Penmen went 165-95-1 (.634) during his five seasons with the program. The team made three straight trips to the NCAA Championship (2012-14), including winning the program's first East Region title to earn a trip to the World Series in 2012. He was also part of he program's first NE10 title in 2014.
