RESULTS

When and Where: May 1, 2016 – Weston, Mass. (Regis College)
Results: No Team Scoring

Freshman Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) captured a pair of individual events and was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay team, as Southern New Hampshire University took part in the Regis College Pride Invitational on Sunday.

Lorenzen placed first in the 200-meter dash as well as the 400-meter run. She clocked an official time of 26.46 seconds in the 200 and crossed the finish line in 59.45 seconds in the 400. Lorenzen edged her next closest competitor by two-tenths of a second in the 200-meter dash and was nearly a full second faster than the second-place finisher in the 400-meter run.

The 4x100-meter relay team, which consisted of junior Skyler Shugrue (Worcester, Mass.), Lorenzen, senior Gitara King (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Sydney Blais (Pascoag, R.I.), made its way around the track in 50.57 seconds to finish atop the event's standings. The group outpaced the closest relay team, Emmanuel College, by 2.42 seconds and distanced itself from third-place Newbury College by nearly three full seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, three Penmen finished within the top-10. Lorenzen was followed by King at No. 5 in 27.43 seconds, before Shugrue traversed the track in 27.71 to check in at No. 8.  Freshman Mary Claffey (Burlington, Conn.) rounded out the Southern New Hampshire with a 28.62 showing, good enough for No. 15 overall.

Freshman Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) turned in a strong showing in each of her three throwing events, as she was one of the top-two finishers in the discus throw, the shot put and the hammer throw. Elder took home to the discus crown with a toss of 37.87 meters, was second in the shot put after a 10.85-meter heave and whirled the hammer throw a distance of 39.85 meters to come in at No. 2.

Junior Melissa Handy (Durham, Conn.) and sophomore Melissa Melanson (Goffstown, N.H.) also collected top-10 finishes in their throwing competitions. Handy was right behind Elder in the shot put after a 10.76-meter outing, nabbed an eighth-place finish in the discus (27.60 meters) and her javelin throw of 22.23 meters was the sixth-best amongst all competing student-athletes. Melanson wound up one slot behind Handy in the discus at 23.98 meters and her hammer throw final of 38.33 meters was third, just over a meter-and-a-half behind Elder.

Southern New Hampshire favored very well in the 400-meter hurdles, with the top-two spots both going to the Penmen. Sophomore Amber Herrington (Burlington Township, N.J.) put forth a time of one minutes, 11.63 seconds to finish first, while freshman Maddie Holt (Seabrook, N.H.) took second in 1:17.91.

Holt and Herrington also racked up two more top-five placements in the triple jump and long jump. Holt traveled a distance of 9.20 meters to finish third in the triple jump, while Herrington went 4.46 meters in the long jump, which was good enough for No. 5. Blais was the highest ranking Penmen on the board in the long jump, as she turned in a 4.68-meter performance to slot in at No. 3.

SNHU was well represented in the 100-meter dash as well as the 1500-meter run on Sunday, as they put two runners in the top-10. King was third in the 100-meter dash in 13.28 seconds, while Claffey was fifth overall after an official time of 14 seconds flat. Sophomore Taylor Downs (West Lebanon, N.H.) completed the group of Penmen finishers in 15.95 seconds to check in at No. 20 overall. Freshman Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) led Southern New Hampshire in the 1500-meter run after she turned in a time of five minutes, 19.65 seconds to come across the line sixth. Sophomore Kaitlin McCauley (Waltham, Mass.) delivered a 10th-place performance in 5:29.16, before classmate Maddie Bardier (Pembroke, N.H.) crossed in 5:39.88 and freshman Rael Gallucci (Wilmington, Mass.) completed the event in 6:33.47.

Notes:
- Claffey earned the top spot in the pole vault after clearing a height of 2.80 meters.
- Shugrue netted a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.59 seconds.
- Junior Devanee Ebert (Reading, Mass.) was in the top-five of the 5000-meter run with an official time of 22 minutes, 43.37 seconds.
