Junior Amber Herrington (Burlington Township, N.J.) set a pair of personal records and helped lead the 4x400-meter relay team to an event title on Saturday, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team took part at the Tufts Stampede and Multi.
Junior Ashlee Carper (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) also set two new personal bests on Saturday, as did freshmen Leah Carfagno (Billerica, Mass.) and Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.). 10 Penmen registered new individual benchmarks, and the 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Herrington, sophomore Sydney Blais (Pascoag, R.I.), freshman Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) and classmate Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) turned in its fastest time of the season in four minutes, 23 seconds.
Herrington and Carper each posted personal records in the long jump, as four Southern New Hampshire student-athletes checked into the top-25. Herrington launched herself 4.72 meters (15 feet, 6 inches) to slot in eighth, while Carper landed at a distance of 4.49 meters (14 feet, 8.75 inches) to finish at No. 17. Senior Skyler Shugrue (Worcester, Mass.) turned in a 4.33-meter (14 feet, 2.5 inches) showing, which was good enough for No. 20, and Blais rounded out the group at No. 25 with a 4.18-meter (13 feet, 8.75 inches) showing.
The personal bests continued to fall in the field events, as two more were set in the weight throw. Sophomore Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) set a new career high with a throw of 13.40 meters (43 feet, 11.75 inches) to finish sixth overall, and junior Melissa Melanson (Goffstown, N.H.) also posted a top-10 finish after a whirling the weight 12.41 meters (40 feet, 8.75 inches). Carfagno completed the Penmen contingent with a PR of 7.94 meters (26 feet, 7.25 inches).
Southern New Hampshire added four personal records in the shot put, with freshmen Jalisa Allen (Foxborough, Mass.) and junior Yawa Agbenowossi (Manchester, N.H.) joining Carfagno and Carper in accomplishing the feat. Elder again led the Penmen with a sixth-place showing at 11.77 meters (38 feet, 7.5 inches) before senior Melissa Handy (Durham, Conn.) followed with a toss of 10.14 meters (33 feet, 3.25 inches). Allen was next on the leaderboard for SNHU with a 9.75-meter (32 feet) performance, and Carfagno added her second personal best of the day with an 8.59-meter (28 feet, 2.25 inches) throw. Carper checked in next at 8.25 meters (27 feet, 1 inch) and Agbenowossi wrapped up the group with an 8.15-meter (26 feet, 9 inches) heave.
Murphy netted the highest individual finish of the afternoon in the triple jump. Murphy had a distance of 10.76 meters (35 feet, 3.75 inches) to check in second, before junior Maddie Bardier (Pembroke, N.H.) traveled 8.99 meters (29 feet, 6 inches) to slot in at No. 14. Murphy also added a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles, where she was fourth in 9.48 seconds.
Bardier netted a personal best of her own in the 800-meter run, as did Dieterich. Dieterich was first across the line for the Penmen in two minutes, 30.52 seconds, which was just two seconds away from the top-10. Bardier set a new indoor PR of 2:44.23, and Carper rounded out the list of SNHU finishers in 3:02.03.
Dieterich nabbed another personal record in the mile run, and she was joined by Couto in achieving a new best. Dieterich again narrowly missed out on the top-10 as her time of five minutes, 35.42 seconds was merely three seconds off the pace, while Couto clocked a time of 5:40.20 to check in at No. 16.
The 200-meter dash saw four Penmen set new personal bests, as Herrington, freshmen Natalie Gallagher (Windham, N.H.) and Savannah Reinitzer (Litchfield, N.H.) joined junior Taylor Downs (West Lebanon, N.H.) in turning in career-low times. Herrington was first in for Southern New Hamphire in 28.37 seconds, and she was followed by Shugrue in 28.86 seconds and Blais in 29.01 seconds. Graduate student Gitara King (Manchester, N.H.) was next on the board in 29.03 before Gallagher (29.70), Reinitzer (30.03) and Downs (34.55).
Sophomore Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) was the final Penmen to turn in a personal record, as she cruised across the finish line in the 1000-meter run in three minutes, 40.57 seconds. Dennis also took part in the 3000-meter run, and traversed the track in 12:13.07.
